Reporting a Dog You Found with The National Dog Directory

Hello, I'm Don and I would like to welcome you to ResearchBreeder.com Tutorials.

In this video I will be showing you how to report a dog you found with The National Dog Directory.

This video assumes you are a registered user on ResearchBreeder.com.

If you are not registered, it is easy to do so. Just click on "Register" in the upper-right corner of the home page.

Let's get started.

First, you need to log in to ResearchBreeder.com. On the home page click on "Login" in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Enter your name and password and click "Login".

HOVER over "Dog Owners" and click on "National Dog Directory".

Here is your National Dog Directory Menu.

Click on "I Found a Dog".

You will see a list of any dogs YOU have reported.

Click on "New"

Click on the field, "Last Name"

Enter your last name and TAB

Enter your first name and TAB

Click on the elipse to select the date you found the dog.

Click on the Address field and enter your address and TAB

Enter your apartment number if applicable and TAB

Enter your zip code and TAB

Enter the name of your city or town where you live and TAB

Choose the state in which you live and TAB

Enter the County or Parrish in which you live and TAB

Enter the name of the subdivision you live in. If you do not live in a subdivision then leave this field blank.  If you live in a subdivision where there are several different phases then enter the main name and TAB

Enter your "Home" phone number in the format you see on the screen.  If you use your cell phone number as your home phone then enter your "Cell" phone number and TAB

Enter your "Work" phone numbe.  If you use your cell phone number as your work phone then enter your "Cell" phone number and TAB

Enter your "Cell" phone number.  If you do not have a cell phone number enter, "NONE" and TAB

Choose if you want to receive texts to your cell number and TAB.

Enter a second cell number if you have one and TAB

Choose if you want to receive texts to this cell number and TAB.

Enter your email address and TAB

Verify your email address and TAB

Indicate if you desire to have notifications sent to this email address and TAB

Enter a second email address if you desire to do so and TAB

Verify the email address and TAB

Indicate if you desire to have notifications sent to this email address and TAB

Click "Next"

The status of the record is set to "Found". When the dog is returned to the owner you will need to change the status to "Returned to Owner" or ddelete the record.  

Select the Breed which best describes the appearance of the dog. Mixed Breed is the first option and TAB

Select the sex of the dog and TAB

Enter the color or colors of the dog's coat and TAB

Enter the description of any markings and TAB

Indicate if you can, whether or not the dog has been neutered or spayed and TAB

Select whether or not the dog is wearing a collar and TAB

Enter the description of the collar if applicable.

Enter the appearance of the dog and TAB

Enter a description of any apparent health issues and TAB

Enter any desired comments and TAB

Select up to 3 pictures of the dog if you desire to do so and TAB

Click NEXT

Now, tell us about where you found the dog.

Enter the street address or the cross streets and TAB

Enter the zip code and TAB

Enter the city and TAB

Enter the state and TAB

Enter the county or parish and TAB

Enter the Subdivision and TAB

This is the geographic section

If you can determine the Latitude and Longitude of the location where you found the dog then enter the latitude and longitude.

If you can determine the section, township and range where you found the dog then enter the information.

This is the Facebook Group Notification section

If you report a dog you found notifications can automatically sent to multiple Facebook Groups.  These groups are geographic areas. You can choose a State Group, County Group, City Group and even a Neighborhood Group.  Select the desired group notifications.  You will also need to go to your Facebook page and join the groups if you want to follow notifications.

Choose the desired Facebook groups you feel should be notified

Click NEXT

Check the ROBOT box

Click "Save My Information".

You will be returned to this screen.  You can reiew the information you entered. If you need to change any information, click the EDIT button, change the desired information, and click the "Save My Information" button.

If you are satisfied with the information you entered click the BACK button.

You will be returned to this screen which is a list of the dogs you have reported as lost.

If you are contacted about a dog you found and you return the dog to the owner then please make sure you change the status in the information to, "Returned to owner".

Our neighbors play an important part in the process of returning lopst dogs to their owner.  Thank you for reporting a lost dog.

Once you enter the information about a dog you found, here is what happens.

Emails and texts are sent to dog owners in your neighborhood.

Here is a sample of the top portion of the email which is sent out.  

A post is made on the Facebook group for the state you selected.

A post is made on the Facebook group for the county you selected.

A post is made on the Facebook group for the city you selected.

A post is made on the Facebook group for the neighborhood you selected.

Your help to accomplish this is greatly appreciated

Remember if you find the dog's owner and the dog is returned, you need to change the status to "Returned to Owner" or delete the record
